Interesting article on the decline of virtue; there is no reference to neoliberalism and its pernicious cultural effects. Greed is good, and, my god, can be righteous!

I have seen AI do "thinking" in Mitko Vasilev's videos on LinkedIn (Vasilev's beat is installing the latest open-source AIs on high-end consumer PCs in his house and he has recently shown excitement that some of them can compete with the closed-source ones) and it is not obvious on its face that this is stochastic parrot behavior. It might be said that it has learned from many technical papers how a human would approach the problem and is typing that out so that the human can understand/feel comfortable with what it has done especially if it has to do an internet search. But Smith's piece was very, very good and I thought seriously about it for a day or two until he wrote an update.

Teaching in particular is something that ideally requires full emotional relationships with students and deep knowledge of a subject instead of just learning how people learn. The emotional relationship part can only partially be taught in a classroom.

Heaviosity half-hour very wonderful
